Caring for Your Handmade Items

Updated this week

Our handmade pieces are crafted by makers across the Peak District. Here's how to keep them at their best.

Ceramics & stoneware (Rachel Hargreaves, Hathersage)

  • All our stoneware mugs and bowls are dishwasher safe and microwave safe

  • Hand washing with warm soapy water is fine too

  • Avoid sudden temperature changes (e.g., don't pour boiling water into a cold mug straight from the cupboard in winter)

  • The gritstone glaze may develop subtle variations over time - this is normal and part of the character

Prints & linocuts (Emily Marsden, Bakewell)

  • Frame behind glass to protect the surface

  • Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading

  • All prints are on acid-free paper and signed by the artist

  • If you'd like a print mounted or framed, ask us - we work with a framer in Bakewell

Woodwork (Tom Whitfield, Hope Valley)

  • Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth

  • Apply a light coat of beeswax or Danish oil once a year to maintain the finish

  • Keep away from radiators and direct heat sources, as wood can crack if it dries out

  • Each piece is carved from locally sourced timber and will have unique grain patterns
